In this episode, Joanne presents “Humane Meat – Part 2”. Then, freshly back from the 2010 LetLive Animal Rights Conference in Portland, Oregon, Alison reports on the amazing weekend event in which several hundred grassroots animal activists got together to share and learn from each other in creative activism for the animals. Next, our feature interview is with “Snake Man” Matt Ellerbeck, an animal rights activist and snake advocate, who speaks to us about snake conservation and why we need to protect our snakes.
LetLive Animal Rights Conference – June 25th-27th, 2010
The 3rd annual (and much anticipated) LetLive Conference has now come and gone, and Alison was fortunate enough to be able to attend the conference for the 2nd year in a row. In this segment, she reviews this year’s conference and presents some audio clips from some of the notable and really inspirational grassroots animal activists that presented at the event. Featured audio clips are by Jasmin Singer (Our Hen House), Isa Chandra Moskowitz (vegan cookbook author extraordinaire) and Greg Bennick (One Hundred for Haiti).
Snake Man Matt Ellerbeck on snake conservation
For our feature interview, we have Matt Ellerbeck, a.k.a. the Snake Man, on the show. Matt is an animal rights activist and conservationist who focuses his advocacy on snakes. Matt’s mission is to help contribute to the recovery of imperiled snake populations by providing educational presentations, raising awareness of the issues snakes face, standing up for their rights, running conservation projects, and promoting snake advocacy, preservation, and stewardship.
In light of the recently released global study of global study of snake populations from the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology in England, which found that snake species are declining around the globe, we talk to Matt all about snakes and why and how we should care to protect these often misunderstood creatures.
Check out this video that Matt has made called “The Truth About Snake Bites” to educate people on the “true nature of snakes”. You can view the video here.
