So Long 2020: A Look Back and A Leap Forward

Listen to this show here!

To kick off this week’s show, we play the compelling audio from the Oscar-winning short film Creature Comforts which was made by Aardman Animations in 1989. This short was Nick Park’s first Oscar-winning film which is set as a series of interviews with the animals in an English zoo.  The animals discuss what their life is like in confinement from their diets to their living situation. Many animals try and rationalize their confinement but at the end of the day, they really just want to be free. Aardman Animation is known for Wallace and Gromit as well as Chicken Run which we reviewed earlier in 2020. Find the original short film here:

In an ongoing effort to complete crab park, we at Animal Voices ask that you please consider signing the petition to help erect a Long House healing center at the park and expand the wetland marsh for local wildlife. On September 8th 2020, Don and Veronica spoke with Leah about CRAB Park and their lasting legacy there.

Later in the show, Alison and Grace discuss what they are hopeful for in the new year. They share resolutions and goals as it pertains to their activism and veganism. Grace put together some of her favorite songs from this year and covers a few of the “cheers and jeers” of animal news that we may have missed along the way during this complex year.

In other news, the new film Vegan 2020 has been released by Plant Based News. The film covers a range of issues – looking at how the COVID-19 pandemic affected the meat and dairy industries and encouraged more people to try plant-based foods. It features some of the key stories around the growth of plant-based meat alternatives. You can access the full documentary through Youtube or from Plantbasednews.org.
