Travel Tips & Recommendations for Compassionate Eating – Part 3: Portland

Alison shares some of her recommendations on places to eat in Portland, based on her recent trip there. Portland is a vegan mecca boasting 23 vegan restaurants and nearly 30 vegetarian restaurants, so it fairly easy to find cruelty-free food to eat there – you just have to know where to find it! Alison talks about three places in downtown Portland, all accessible via street car and foot: the new(ish) restaurant Prasad inside a yoga studio; the infamous Voodoo Doughnut, with decadent vegan doughnuts galore; and the staple Chinese vegan restaurant Vegetarian House.

Dr. Donald Forrester, PCRM, on the benefits of a plant-based diet and the 21-Day Vegan Kickstart Program

Our feature interview is with Dr. Donald Forrester, who is a physician member of the Physician’s Committee for Responsible Medicine. The PCRM is a not-for-profit organization of doctors and laypersons working together for compassionate and effective medical practice, research, and health promotion. As part of the work they do, one initiative of the Physician’s Committee for Responsible Medicine is the 21-Day Vegan Kickstart Program, which is a program designed for anyone who wants to explore and experience the health benefits of a vegan diet. The next 21-Day Vegan Kickstart Program “kicks off” soon, on September the 6th.

In addition to giving information on the 21-Day Vegan Kickstart Program, Dr. Forrester also talks to us about some of the benefits of following a plant-based, vegan diet, including weight loss and preventing or reversing serious diseases such as heart disease and cancer (the #1 and #2 leading killers in North America), as well as diabetes.
