Compassionate resolutions…Veganuary is upon us once again

Most New Year’s resolutions tend to focus on health and self care. By going vegan, you can address many issues with just one lifestyle change. Veganism has a huge impact on the environment, your health, human rights, and animal rights.

In this episode, we interview Matthew Nagra, a recent graduate of Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine, on the merits of adopting a vegan lifestyle. He answers all the common questions regarding nutritional requirements, the paleo and keto diets are debunked (I can’t believe we still have to talk about this), and we offer meal ideas for those who wish to transition their lifestyles, but don’t know where to begin.

Matthew also offers a listing of his favourite websites, books and documentaries for new vegans wanting to learn more. We highly recommend watching Forks Over Knives and What The Health on Netflix as well as making the website NutritionFacts.org your new go-to for all your unanswered health and nutrition questions. For those who love a good read, Dr. Michael Greger‘s How Not To Die is one of my favourite books and most-frequently gifted items to my loved ones and clients. There’s even a How Not To Die cookbook!

Eternal Abundance – the one-stop-shop for Pregans (pre-vegans)

Alexandra Brigham is the co-owner of Eternal Abundance, our super-soulful, local, organic vegan grocery store and cafe on Commercial Drive. They prioritize local and fair trade whenever possible, and seek out direct purchasing relationships with local farmers and artisan producers.

They strive to provide a space for exploration of healthy living, through providing affordable, top quality, cruelty-free whole organic food for home preparation or in-house enjoyment; offering classes on preparing raw and cooked plant-based meals; literature on various healthy living topics; as well as hosting numerous community events.

For anyone wanting to go vegan, this is a one-stop-shop; most of the staff are vegan, knowledgable and helpful if you have any questions. I especially love the books on how to go vegan, such as my favourite, “Becoming Vegan” by dieticians, Vesanto Melina and Brenda Davis.

Eternal Abundance has had 2 break-ins recently and the owners are trying to recover the $3000 loss, so if you would like to support them you can donate to their Go Fund Me page or just bring some friends down to the shop for lunch and pick up some groceries.
