In this episode we talk to Lauren Ornelas of The Food Empowerment Project about Food Justice, including the disparity in availability of healthy food choices for low-income neighborhoods in stark contrast to more affluent areas, as well highlighting the difficult working conditions for produce workers in the United States and looking at how our food choices can affect change in such areas as these.
Lauren is in town this weekend hosting an event presented by Liberation BC entitled Food Justice, which will be held in the Alma VanDusen & Peter Kaye rooms on the Lower Level of the Central Library Branch (350 W Georgia Street) of the Vancouver Public Library from 7-9pm.
We also hear from Melisser Elliott, author of The Vegan Girl’s Guide to Life, as well as the popular blog The Urban Housewife about vegan living and blogging, wherever your travels may take you. If you’re one of the lucky ticket holders, perhaps that will include Vida Vegan Con – the first ever Vegan Bloggers’ Conference happening this summer in Portland, Oregon August 26-28th, where Melisser will be a part of the Travel Panel of experts.
