December 10th is World Human Rights Day. This is a day that is recognized globally to bring to light issues facing the rights of people all over the world. Animal Voices radio is a show about animal rights, in which we bring to light the issues facing animals all over the world. So how do the two interconnect with each other and what is the relevance to address an issue of human rights on a show that is about animals?
Alison presents this segment where we go into some of the human rights issues that slaughterhouse workers face every day, including deplorable working conditions, great injury rates, and harmful psychological impacts.

Nava Atlas, Vegan Holiday Kitchen
Our feature interview today is with seasoned vegetarian and vegan cookbook author Nava Atlas. Nava is the author and illustrator of many books on vegetarian cooking, including such titles that you may know as Vegan Express, Vegan Soups and Hearty Stews for All Seasons, The Vegetarian Family Cookbook, and The Vegetarian 5-Ingredient Gourmet. She has also has written scores of articles on healthful cooking with natural foods, which have appeared in magazines such as Vegetarian Times, VegNews, Cooking Light, and numerous other publications.
Nava talks with us about the recent release of her newest book entitled “Vegan Holiday Kitchen”, and aptly speaks with us about the content of this new book and cooking vegan for the holidays, including sharing tips for vegan hosts and vegan guests of holiday celebrations, and her take on the “tofu turkey”.
