Leah Lemieux, Faroe Islands Whale Hunt
Today’s first interview is with whale and dolphin advocate Leah Lemieux. She is an author and lecturer who has been working on cetacean protection, education and conservation initiatives for twenty years, collaborating with individuals and NGOs from a number of countries. In 2009, she published a book of her years of personal experiences with dolphins entitled “Rekindling the Waters: The Truth About Swimming with Dolphins”, which we featured on the Animal Voices show last year (and can be listened to here).
Leah is here with us today to speak to us about what is currently happening in the Faroe Islands with the annual whale hunt called grindadráp, and she tells us about her experiences there this week in witnessing the massacre of the native pilot whales.
Here is a video that depicts the slaughter that happened in the Faroe Islands this week:
Activist Profile: Erin Red
Our feature interview and Animal Activist Profile is with media personality Erin Red. Erin was born and raised in Toronto and relocated to New York City in 1999. After going vegan in February of 2006, she immediately began educating herself on the lifestyle, developing an overwhelming passion for the movement and creating her niche in the vegan community. In 2011, Erin established a vegan blog and generated buzz through various social media outlets and community events.
During this time, she was inspired to develop her own vegan podcast, and Red Radio debuted on November 14th, 2011 to rave reviews from vegans and omnivores alike. Erin Red is a strong, charismatic voice for the community, whose rich life experiences speak to a broad audience and keep listeners on their toes. She speaks with authority while remaining approachable and charming, addressing important topics from all aspects of the vegan spectrum with humor and sincerity.
In this interview, she speaks with us about her thoughts on vegan advocacy, plus tells us about her two major projects: her podcast Red Radio, and The Seed: A Vegan Experience, which is a huge event happening in New York City on June 16 and 17.
