On today’s show, we speak with Mary Finelli of Fish Feel. Mary is a long-time animal rights activist with a B.S. in Animal Science. She has worked for various animal protection organizations in the past, and is currently President of Fish Feel. Fish Feel is the sole organization devoted exclusively to promoting the recognition of fish as sentient beings deserving of respect and protection. Despite fish constituting the largest category of animals used for food (including as farmed animal feed), and despite huge numbers of fish harmed for research, “sport,”and aquaria, their well-being receives very little attention, including from the animal protection community. Fish Feel is working to spread education and outreach about these important beings.

Mary discusses with us the extent of the suffering that fish in our world currently experience, why they deserve our consideration, and some other amazing fish traits.

A short, powerful video showing how so many larger ocean beings are also greatly impacted by fishing:

Established in 1977, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is an international non-profit, marine wildlife conservation organization. Their mission is to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world’s oceans in order to conserve and protect ecosystems and species.

Sea Shepherd Vancouver is a local branch of the organization well-known for their direct-action tactics to protect oceanic wildlife. They also work on outreach, education and demonstrations, as well as conservation efforts.

Sebastien is a coordinator of Sea Shepherd Vancouver, and long-time animal rights activist. He is responsible for planning and organizing of Sea Shepherd events, film screenings, and other Vancouver related tasks. We share an interview with Sebastien, where he speaks about his involvement with Sea Shepherd, some of their campaigns and events, and plans for the future.
