Listen to the show here!

April 22nd is Earth Day and this is our annual Earth Day show!

Patricia Tallman, The Restore-Our-Planet Diet

The-Restore-Our-Planet-Diet

For our feature interview, we have Dr. Patricia Tallman on the show to speak about her recently published book called “The Restore-Our-Planet Diet: Food Choices, Our Environment, and Our Health”. Patricia has a Masters degree in Environmental Sciences and a PhD in Water Resources Engineering, and after she realized that individual actions exert an immense impact upon animal suffering and environmental degradation, she became vegan in 2003. Through her speaking engagements, policy consulting, and writing, Dr. Tallman demonstrates how a plant-based diet profoundly benefits human, animal and environmental health.

In this interview, she speaks to us about some of the environmental impacts of meat industry, such as greenhouse gasses and animal waste, and explains comparisons of a meat-centred diet versus its plant-based counterpart. She also bridges the connections for us between livestock agriculture and wildlife extinction, and makes a foray into comparing humans’ anatomical and physiological structures in comparison to those of carnivores.

Patricia believes that individual actions can exert an immense impact upon animal suffering and environmental degradation, and explains to us why.

Eating Earth offers a concise examination of the environmental effects of dietary choice, clearly presenting the many reasons why dietary choice ought to be front and center for environmentalists.

“If earth and animal advocates move beyond philosophical differences and resultant divergent priorities, turning attention to shared goals, both will be more effective – and both animals and the environment will benefit. Given the undeniable seriousness of the environmental problems that we face, including climate change and species extinction, it is essential that activists join forces.” – From her newest book Animals and the Environment: Advocacy, Action, and the Quest for Common Ground
