In this show, we feature an interview with grassroots liberation activist Darren Chang on strategies and tools in the animal rights and anti-oppression movements, including the Canada Goose Pressure Campaign.

Guest co-host Meghan tells us about her experience in the protests against RibFest events, and co-host Alison shares how this parallels her experience at the Meat the Victims action she participated in last April 2019 at the Excelsior Hog Farm in Abbotsford, where Kelowna Ribfest procures some of the meat it serves at its festival. Animal Activist and Researcher Darren Chang on Strategy and Effectiveness in the Animal Rights Movement, plus the Canada Goose Pressure Campaign

Former Animal Voices guest co-host Darren Chang speaks with us on the intersectionality of oppression of human and non-human animals. He currently holds a Masters in Political Philosophy and Critical Animal Studies, and has researched under the supervision of philosopher Will Kymlicka, co-author of Zoopolis: A Political Theory of Animal Rights.

Darren has been an interview guest on Animal Voices in a previous show in which he talks about his essay entitled Organize and Resist with Farmed Animals: Prefiguring Anti-Speciesist/Anti-Anthropocentric Cities on the politics of farmed animal sanctuaries. He is also a key organizer for the Canada Goose Pressure Campaign taking place mainly in Toronto, Canada.

Darren tells us about the importance of strategy, such as having carefully crafted plans that helps us identify the short-term and long-term plans and goals we want to accomplish, which also gives us a sense of direction. Strategy allows us to use our time, energy, and resources effectively.

Darren recommends watching the film Pride which captures the spirit of intersectionality against oppression.
