Casey Taft, PhD, on Understanding Motivations to Change

Casey Taft, co-founder of Vegan Publishers and Professor of Psychiatry at Boston University School of Medicine.

Do you ever wonder why some people become vegan after awakening to the truth about how animals are exploited and others don’t? This is a question that we have wondered about for years. How can we communicate veganism to those people who continue to partake in a system that abuses and kills animals in the most horrific ways?

In this interview, Casey Taft discusses the “Stages of Change Model”, an assessment tool to understand a persons motivation to change.

Casey is the co-founder of the book publishing company Vegan Publishers, a Professor of Psychiatry at Boston University School of Medicine and an internationally recognized researcher in the areas of trauma and the family.

He has won  prestigious awards for his work from the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies, the Institute on Violence, Abuse and Trauma, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

He has published over 100 journal articles, book chapters, and scientific reports, and has consulted with the United Nations on preventing violence and abuse globally.

He sees the prevention of violence towards animals as a natural extension of this work. We discuss his books “Motivational Methods for Vegan Advocacy: A Clinical Psychology Perspective” and “Millennial Vegan“.
