The World Vegan Day Show: Ginny Messina, RD, on Vegan Nutrition; & Camille Labchuk, Ethical Veganism as a Human Right

Here’s this week’s show!

We present to you the World Vegan Day Show! World Vegan Day is on November 1st.

Fall Member Drive

It’s that time of the year again, when we humbly ask our dear listeners to please support us at Vancouver Co-operative Radio by kindly making a donation in Animal Voices’ name, so that we can continue delivering you the quality programming that we do on an ongoing, weekly basis. Vancouver Co-operative Radio is a charitable non-profit organization, and entirely listener supported, which means that we need your financial contributions! Donations are tax deductible, and every penny counts, so please show your support now by donating whatever possible.

The Fall Member Drive for Vancouver Co-operative Radio ends today on October 26th. During this time, for any donation that you make to Animal Voices, your name will be added in a draw for a selection of 5 great prizes! The prizes are:

  • a $10 gift certificate for Eternal Abundance restaurant,
  • two $10 gift cards for Gorilla Food restaurant,
  • a copy of “The Inspired Vegan” cookbook by Bryant Terry
  • a copy of “Becoming Vegan” by Brenda Davis and Vesanto Melina.

At the end of the membership drive, we will do a draw for each of these prizes, and the winners will be able to choose which prize they wish in the order they are drawn. Prizes must then be picked up from the radio station in downtown Vancouver.

Please go to www.coopradio.org to make a secure donation. Your donations are tax-deductible! Thank you for your support to keep Animal Voices going.

Camille Labchuk, Ethical Veganism as a Human Right

Our first interview is with activist Camille Labchuk, who is a recent Toronto law school graduate and current articling student, and she plans to practice animal law in the future. Earlier this year, Camille made the news when she went to the Ontario Human Rights Commission to make a case for recognizing ethical veganism as a human right under provincial legislation in Ontario. She speaks with us about this endeavour, and what it could mean for protecting the rights of ethical veganism under the law in the future.

Ginny Messina, RD, Vegan Nutrition

Our feature interview is with Registered Dietician and nutrition expert Ginny Messina. She  answers all of our vegan nutrition-related questions in honour of the upcoming World Vegan Day. As well as working as a dietician, Ginny is a public health nutritionist, and has co-authored a textbook on vegetarian nutrition that is aimed at medical and nutrition professionals, as well as also twice co-authored the American Dietetic Association’s Position on Vegetarian Diets, and helped develop a food guide for vegetarians and vegans. In addition to that, Ginny last year authored a book called “Vegan for Life: Everything You Need to Know to Be Healthy and Fit on a Plant-Based Diet” and she is here today to speak with us just about that.
