Colleen Patrick-Goudreau, Compassionate Cooks, & Animal Charity Gift Giving for the Holidays

Animal Charity Gift Giving for the Holidays

Joanne, Carissa and Alison each give a few of their top recommendations for holiday gift giving to the animals this year! Our suggestions are for the following charities, and we delve into why you should donate to these organizations:

Colleen Patrick-Goudreau, Compassionate Cooks, on “Color Me Vegan” and Holiday Cooking

Colleen Patrick-Goudreau is the author of the two best-selling cookbooks “The Joy of Vegan Baking” and “The Vegan Table”, and is the founder of Compassionate Cooks, an organization whose mission is to empower people to make informed food choices, to inspire people to live according to their values of compassion and health, and to debunk myths about veganism and animal rights. Colleen has also appeared on the Food Network and is a columnist for VegNews magazine and a contributor to National Public Radio.

She joins us in this interview during the holiday season with a brand new published book called “Color Me Vegan”, a book based on eating delicious plant foods by colour. She also talks to us about cooking great vegan food for the holidays and dealing with social aspects that may arise with friends and family at this time of the year.

We are giving away a free copy of “Color Me Vegan” to a lucky listener! To enter the draw for this prize, please go to our Facebook page (called “Animal Voices Vancouver”) and tell us in the Contest thread under the Discussions tab what your favourite holiday celebration is to cook for. Or, you can email us your entry at radioanimalvoices@gmail.com You must not have won anything from us in the last year and must be able to claim your prize from our radio station in downtown Vancouver, to be eligible to win. Deadline for entries is January 7th, 2011 at 9am PST, and we will be announcing the book winner on our January 7th show. Good luck!

Here is a video of Colleen entitled “Becoming Awake”, which is a topic we discuss on this podcast – that is to say how we become desensitized to animal suffering during childhood and then may become “reawakened” to it as adults.

Musical Holiday Treat from Animal Voices

We end the show with a special holiday treat for you: performing a musical duet with Alison on clarinet and Carissa on vocals, we present to you our “veganized” version of the holiday classic carol “Silent Night”.
